What does STWS do in the CASSATA project?
In CASSATA project, STWS is mainly involved in TA2 (WP6, WP7, WP8 and WP9), leading T8.2 regarding metrics and data exchange and T9.4 regarding implementation of the interfaces. STWS will be also substantially involved in T8.4 regarding algorithms for acoustic/seismic signal processing, focusing on Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) technology for terrestrial defence applications (Fiber Optic Cables, FOC) and other passive sensing technologies (hydrophones) for underwater defence applications, aiming at improving DSP algorithms for detection, localization and classification of defined targets.
What does STWS aim to achieve by participating in the CASSATA project?
1) Generation of new knowledge and exteding current knowledge on signal processing algorithms for defence applications with special focus on Fiber Optics cables via DAS technology and other passive sensing technologies such as hydrophones.
2) Collaboration opportunities with other SMEs being active in the domain.
What specific areas does STWS focus on in the CASSATA project to improve covert sensing and operational effectiveness amidst rapid changes in European defense?
STWS will focus on the detection of targets that are difficult to be detected in complex environments, including semi-urban and urban and coastal environments. In addition, STWS will focus on covert sensing of difficult targets such as surface targets (e.g. manned or unmanned vessels) operating covertly exhibiting low (for passive sensors) or reduced (for active sensors) signature. Finally, STWS will focus on steady and reliable surveillance via detection, localisation and classification of various targets (e.g. vehicles, surface vessels, etc.) in different environmental conditions.
