What does TRT do in the CASSATA project?
In the Physics group of Thales Research & Technology (TRT), the Optics and Signal Processing Laboratory is involved in research and development of original concepts and devices exploiting piezo-electric, electro-optic, lasing and nonlinear optical properties. In the CASSATA project, it will bring its expertise to two of the four explored Technical Areas, Optronics and Acoustics, in work packages dealing with generating knowledge, studies and design.
What does TRT aim to achieve by participating in the CASSATA project?
Networking with peers and scientific and technological consolidation of concepts studied to date at moderate TRL levels are key motivations for TRT.
What specific areas does TRT focus on in the CASSATA project to improve covert sensing and operational effectiveness amidst rapid changes in European defense?
In the Optronics area, TRT studies multimode sum frequency generation as a mean to obtain infrared images from standard CMOS cameras and builds a covert active upconversion imager at 2 µm. In the Acoustics area, TRT is exploring the suitability of Distributed Acoustic Sensing with Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry for the covert detection of artillery, vehicles and soldiers on the battlefield.
